Captain Shreve, Red River, Logansport among LHSAA playoff winners

Captain Shreve wasted no time jumping out to a double-digit lead against Archbishop Chapelle Monday, Feb. 23, in the second-round of the LHSAA Select Division I playoffs and the Lady Gators coasted to a 56-24 victory.

“I didn’t think it would be like it was, but it’s always good to move to the next round,” Shreve coach Keith Greene said. “For the most part we stayed to the game plan. The girls have been putting in the work and I hope we continue to do that.”

Shiloh Brokenberry was on fire from the outside in the early going nailing four 3-pointers on her way to a 23-point night. Kylise Edgerson added 10 and Loghan Ware 9 for the Lady Gators (20-10), who move on to play No. 1 John Curtis in New Orleans.

“I just stayed locked in on the shots even when I didn’t make some. But I feel confident,” Brokenberry said. “We just try to stay locked in every game no matter who we play.”

Neville 57, Haughton 51: Despite 23 points from Skylar Branch, the Lady Buccaneers (24-10) saw their season come to a close Monday in the Non-Select Division I playoffs in Monroe. Bella Hammond contributed 15 points for coach Jenna Bolin’s club.

Salmen 62, Parkway 51: The Lady Panthers (24-9) played well in the Non-Select Division I road contest but couldn’t advance.

Cedar Creek 58, Opelousas Catholic 8: The Lady Cougars (21-8) were impressive in the Select Division IV contest in Ruston. Avery Ryan dropped in 18 points and Mary Grace Hawkins added 13 for the Creek.

Red River 57, Mansfield 53: The Lady Bulldogs went on the road in the Non-Select Division III playoff and pulled off an upset behind 30 points from Kaleah Crawford. Red River moves on to play at No. 2 Oak Grove in the next round.

D’Arbonne Woods 44, Dunham 40: The Lady Timberwolves won on the road in a tight Select Division III contest.

Logansport 67, West St. John 33: The Lady Tigers (19-10) bounded into the third round of the LHSAA Division IV playoffs with an easy win at home. Jalaysia Washington poured in 31 points and NaKiyah Carter added 17 in the win.

Arcadia 61, Plain Dealing 19: The Lady Hornets showed that their No. 3 seed may be too low after rolling past the Lady Lions in Non-Select Division IV.

Lake Arthur 66, Homer 29: The Lady Pelicans were overwhelmed in their road contest in Non-Select Division IV.
